Savour the Boro Launches

Beginning April 1st the DBIA will kickoff a new program called Savour the Boro, an epic month-long bingo game where locals can eat their way to prizes while exploring all the tastes and flavours of Peterborough’s urban centre.

Savour the Boro’s downloadable bingo card game will encourage downtown dining in exchange for a chance to win one of ten $200 downtown dollar gift cards. To play, simply order from any downtown café, restaurant, bar, or pub to complete a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line across the Savour the Boro bingo card.

Throughout the month of April, players can use the bingo card for dine-in, takeout or delivery at any downtown establishment. Contest goers are encouraged to keep a copy of their receipts to verify each bingo square earned. Once a single line on the Savour the Boro’s bingo card is completed, players can submit their bingo cards by email to contest@downtownptbo.ca.

“A new food-focused event couldn’t have come at a better time,” says Warna Hetti, local chef and co-owner of Dreams Café and Bistro. “Hopefully, this program will entice food lovers to try a myriad of scintillating cuisines that excite not only the palate- but also a local connection to our city’s urban gastronomy scene.”

In the pursuit of BINGO, players can explore a variety of unique food and drink experiences on offer in the heart of our city. The downtown has one of the most diverse collections of culinary options in the region, with over 100 places to eat and drink.

“We are fortunate to have a vibrant culinary scene throughout our downtown. The food and drink service industry is one of the hardest-hit sectors by the pandemic. We hope to encourage people to eat at and support local restaurants, cafes and pubs by participating in the Savour the Boro Bingo contest,” says Joon Kim, Marketing Manager of the DBIA.

Supporting local food and beverage operators will play a critical role in Peterborough’s economic recovery efforts. In Peterborough, restaurants and bars are vital economic contributors to the local labour force. A recent Workforce Development Board study found that food and drink services are the second largest sector for job creation in the Peterborough region.

Peterborough Economic Development’s Director of Tourism Tracie Bertrand says, “Creative and innovative events like Savour the Boro Bingo creates a fun and engaging opportunity for our community to safely rally around the downtown culinary industry. This kind of adaptive programming will draw more people into Peterborough’s urban centre to support our incredible small business operators”.

Savour the Boro Bingo will run from April 1 to April 30. Randomly selected winners will be notified by May 12, 2021. To download the Savour the Boro bingo card, and for full contest details visit www.theboro.ca/savourtheboro
