New DBIA Board Chair

Michael Gallant has been appointed as the new chair of the Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area.

Gallant succeeds Paul Bennett as chair of the DBIA’s board of management. Bennett has been on the DBIA board since 2015 and served as chair since 2018.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Paul for the leadership and vision he has given to the DBIA,” says Gallant. “I don’t think we can truly appreciate the amount of hours Paul has volunteered over his time at the DBIA. It’s the passion and dedication of this entire board that has helped make downtown the place to be for local entrepreneurs. We’ll miss having him on our board, but we know he’ll still be hard at work serving this community and the downtown through other avenues.”

The DBIA’s Board of Management accepted Bennett’s resignation and voted to appoint Gallant at their meeting on Jan. 27.

Michael Gallant is an Architect and Design Principal at Lett Architects located at 138 Simcoe Street. He has taken a lead role in the DBIA’s vibrancy projects, which emphasize urban renewal through placemaking, public art, and community engagement.

“I could not be prouder of the team at the DBIA,” says Bennett. “The hard work and vision that has been displayed over the past years have paved the way for a very positive future for our core. There are a number of very exciting initiatives and programs in planning that will ensure some exciting years to come. I am very thankful to have been part of such a great team and am excited to see what they accomplish in the years to come. Michael is the perfect person to lead our downtown into the years ahead. His work ethic and vision make him a very rare individual. Michael has a special ability to work with others and ensure all voices are heard, which make him a logical leader of our core.”

Paul Bennett is the owner of Ashburnham Realty and a co-founder of the VentureNorth entrepreneurship hub. Bennett is involved with numerous community development projects and manages both residential and commercial properties throughout Downtown Peterborough and beyond.
