Holiday Decorated Window Contest Winners

Congratulations to Watson & Lou at 383 Water Street on winning the 2019 annual DBIA Holiday Decorated Window Contest.

“We are so thrilled to receive first place this year,” says Erin Watson, co-owner of Watson & Lou. “We always strive for fun and creative windows that not only represent us, but this wonderful, creative and inclusive community we live in. This window was a labour of love with Anna’s artistic talent and my patience with a jigsaw and drywall cutter.”

This year’s winners are:
1st place — Watson & Lou, 383 Water Street
2nd Place — The Art School of Peterborough, 174A Charlotte Street
3rd Place — Dodrio Anime Café, 404 George Street North
Honourable Mention — The Boardwalk Board Game Lounge, 261 George Street North

This year saw an increase in the prize package and some changes to the judging process. Winners will receive $1,000, $500, and $200 for the top three window displays. For the first time, customers were able to vote online for their favourite window. Online voting started Nov. 22 and results were combined with votes by guest judges from Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School visual arts program who toured the displays on Dec. 7.

This year’s contest more than doubled the number of decorated windows downtown with 47 participating businesses. The contest also received more than online 2,500 votes from the public to help decide which displays stood out from the rest.

“The creativity displayed by the winners was outstanding,” says Terry Guiel, DBIA Executive Director. “It’s great to see so many businesses participating this year and I’d like to thank them for making our downtown look great. Thanks as well to our downtown patrons who got into the spirit of it and cast their votes online.”
