Winter Parking Details
From December 1 to April 1, parking is prohibited on all city streets from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. This allows for better snow clearing of city streets. The fine for a violation is $25.00.
During a snowstorm, when snow-clearing operations are underway, no stopping of a vehicle is permitted on any city street. Snow-clearing operations typically take place between midnight, and 8:00 a.m. The fine for a violation is $80.00, and additionally your vehicle may be towed at the owner’s expense. During these times, free overnight parking is permitted at all municipal parking lots, King Street Parkade and Simcoe Street parking garage. Individuals parking their vehicles overnight at either parking garage can obtain a gate-arm ticket upon entry, which can then be used for a free transit trip home.
Q — Is there a grace period for parking on the street?
A — There is a 10 minute grace period that comes into effect after your purchased parking time has expired. You must purchase parking time and display it in the window of your vehicle to be entitled to a grace period. This is not for temporary parking for deliveries or to make a quick purchase.
Q — I have an appointment that starts at 8 am but parking is free until 9 am, do I have to leave at 9 am to put money in the meter?
A — No. The parking meters don’t count the time that parking is free. If you put $1.25 in the meter at 8 am, you will be issued a receipt to put in the window of your vehicle that is valid until 10 am.
Q — I received a parking ticket even though I paid for parking, what do I do?
A — Please contact the City of Peterborough Parking Division at 705-742-7777 extension 2758 or visit the parking office located in the King Street Parkade at 202 King Street.
Q — Do I have to pay for parking if I park in an accessible parking space?
A — Yes, the City of Peterborough does not exempt accessible parking spaces from parking fees.
